What Is RX Bound Resin Bound Surfacing?

RX Bound is a resin bound surfacing system designed for driveways, paths, patios, entrances and other exterior areas in Greater Victoria. Unlike loose gravel, the aggregate is mixed with resin before installation, so the finished surface forms one continuous layer rather than a collection of loose stones.

The result is a firm, smooth and decorative surface that is easy to walk on, easy to sweep and far easier to move a stroller, wheelchair or wheelbarrow across. With no block joints or pointing between units, the finished area also has a clean, uninterrupted appearance that works well with both modern and traditional homes.

No loose gravel

A Driveway That Keeps the Stone Where It Belongs

Loose gravel looks good when it is first laid, but it moves. Vehicle tires push it into ridges, stones migrate into lawns and gutters, and high-traffic areas need regular raking and topping up. RX Bound gives you the appearance of natural stone without that constant movement.

Because the aggregate is mixed with resin before installation, the stone is locked throughout the full depth of the surface. Under normal use, the finished driveway stays neat and consistent, making it a practical option for Greater Victoria homeowners who want a premium stone look with less ongoing maintenance.

Bound vs bonded

Resin Bound vs Resin Bonded: What Is the Difference?

RX Bound is a true resin bound system. The aggregate and resin are mixed together before the material is laid, so each stone is coated and held throughout the surface.

Resin Bound — RX Bound

How it is made: Aggregate and resin are mixed together before laying

Finished surface: Smooth and hand-trowelled

Loose stone: Stone is locked through the full depth under normal use

Drainage: Can form part of a permeable construction

Resin Bonded

How it is made: Resin is spread first and loose stone is scattered on top

Finished surface: Rougher, scatter-coated finish

Loose stone: Loose aggregate can come away over time

Drainage: Generally forms a sealed surface

Finishes

Natural Stone Finishes Designed Around Your Property

The aggregate is the visual feature of an RX Bound surface. PITLANE Surfaces can help you choose a blend that complements your home, landscaping, brickwork and surrounding hardscape rather than treating the driveway as a separate element.

DALTEX offers natural aggregate blends ranging from warm golds and browns through to contemporary greys and darker tones, along with premium marble-style options. Borders and contrasting bands can also be incorporated to frame a driveway, define a path or create a more detailed entrance.

i

Natural aggregates vary slightly from batch to batch, which is part of their character. Physical samples should be viewed in daylight against your property before the final blend is approved.

drainage

Can RX Bound Be Permeable?

Yes — RX Bound can form part of a properly designed permeable driveway or paving system, but the resin bound surface alone does not make an existing driveway permeable.

For water to pass through the finished surface and drain correctly, the complete construction underneath must also be designed to allow water through. That can include the sub-base, drainage layers and the way the site is graded. If permeability is important for your Greater Victoria property, PITLANE Surfaces assesses the full build-up rather than simply laying resin bound surfacing over an unsuitable base.

Where an existing concrete or asphalt base is sound and suitable, RX Bound may instead be used as a resurfacing system, with water managed by the existing falls and drainage. PITLANE Surfaces will explain which approach applies before work is quoted.

DALTEX UVR Resin Bound Qualified Installer
Materials & installer

Built with DALTEX UVR Resin Bound Materials

PITLANE Surfaces installs RX Bound using the DALTEX UVR Resin Bound System. The aggregates are graded and dried specifically for resin bound surfacing, while the UV-resistant resin is designed to reduce the yellowing associated with non-UV-stable resin systems.

PITLANE Surfaces is a DALTEX UVR Resin Bound Qualified Installer, giving you a professionally specified system installed using the manufacturer’s materials and installation requirements. With resin-bound surfacing, the preparation, mixing ratios, working time and hand-trowelling technique all affect the finished result, so professional installation matters just as much as the product itself.

Six stages

How PITLANE Surfaces Installs RX Bound

The concrete
01Assess
We inspect the existing surface, levels, drainage, condition and intended use.
02Base Preparation
The existing base is prepared or a new build-up is created where required. If a permeable construction is needed, the layers beneath the surface must also be designed for drainage.
03Edges and details
Borders, transitions, drainage interfaces and perimeter details are prepared before surfacing begins.
The coating
04Mixing
The selected DALTEX aggregate is mixed in controlled proportions with the DALTEX UVR resin system.
05Hand-trowelled installation
The mixed material is placed and trowelled to create the smooth, seamless finish.
06Cure and handover
The surface is allowed to cure before pedestrian or vehicle traffic returns. PITLANE Surfaces confirms the safe return-to-service time for your project.
timing

How Long Does a Resin Bound Driveway Take to Install?

The resin bound surfacing itself can be installed relatively quickly once the base is ready. The overall project time is usually determined by the condition of the existing driveway and how much work is required underneath the finished surface.

A sound existing base may allow a straightforward resurfacing project to move quickly. Excavation, drainage work, repairs or a new permeable construction will naturally add time. Weather also matters — resin bound surfacing cannot be laid onto a wet base or during rain, so PITLANE Surfaces builds suitable weather allowances into the program.

You will receive an expected installation schedule before the project begins, including when the finished area can safely accept foot traffic and vehicles.

care

Low Maintenance, with Straightforward Care

RX Bound is designed to be easy to live with. Regular sweeping and occasional washing help keep the surface clear of leaves, dirt and organic debris, while prompt cleaning of oil and other spills helps protect the finish.

Because the surface is made from natural aggregate held within the resin, correct care matters. PITLANE Surfaces provides the applicable DALTEX aftercare guidance at handover so you know how to clean and protect the surface without damaging the binder.

01
Sweep regularly and clear leaves before they break down on the surface
02
Wash with clean water as needed
03
Use pressure washing only within the manufacturer’s recommended limits
04
Treat moss and algae before heavy growth establishes
05
Clean oil spills promptly
06
Avoid dragging heavy objects or applying sharp point loads directly to the surface
07
Avoid turning the steering wheel while a vehicle is stationary, which can damage resin bound surfacing

Common Questions About RX Bound

Considering a resin bound driveway in Greater Victoria? Here are answers to some of the questions homeowners ask most often. If you would rather discuss your project directly, contact PITLANE Surfaces for a site assessment.

Is a resin bound driveway permeable?+

The resin bound layer is porous, but a truly permeable driveway depends on the complete construction underneath it. PITLANE assesses the base, drainage and site conditions and will explain whether your project is a permeable build-up or a resurfacing system.

Can RX Bound be installed over an existing driveway?+

Sometimes. A sound, stable concrete or asphalt base may be suitable for resurfacing. A driveway that is moving, breaking up or holding water may need repairs or a new construction before resin bound surfacing is installed.

Will weeds grow through a resin bound surface?+

RX Bound is resistant to weeds because there are no open joints like block paving, but no exterior surface is completely weed-free. Windblown seeds can occasionally take hold on the surface and should be removed before they establish.

Can I park vehicles on RX Bound?+

Yes, when the driveway and base are properly specified for vehicle use. Tell PITLANE if heavier vehicles, trailers or motorhomes will regularly use the area because that can change the required construction.

Does resin bound surfacing fade in sunlight?+

The DALTEX UVR resin used for RX Bound is UV-stable and is designed to reduce the yellowing associated with non-UV-stable resin systems. The aggregate itself is natural stone.

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?+

With resin bound surfacing, the aggregate and resin are mixed together before installation, coating and locking the stone throughout the finished layer. Resin bonded surfacing has resin spread on the base with loose stone scattered over the top.

How do I clean a resin bound driveway?+

Regular sweeping and washing with clean water handle most maintenance. Pressure washing can also be used within DALTEX’s recommended limits. PITLANE provides the manufacturer’s aftercare guidance when the project is handed over.

Do you install RX Bound outside Greater Victoria?+

Greater Victoria is PITLANE Surfaces’ primary service area. Projects elsewhere on Vancouver Island or in the Lower Mainland can be discussed depending on location and availability.

Transform Your Driveway with RX Bound

If you are considering a new driveway, patio, path or entrance, PITLANE Surfaces can assess the existing base, drainage, intended use and the finish you want before recommending the right construction.

Tell us what the area is used for, what surface is there now and where water currently goes. PITLANE will then explain whether RX Bound is suitable, what preparation is required and which aggregate options will work best with your Greater Victoria property.
